Steerprop, a manufacturer of propellers (products supply), has teamed up with Switch to develop permanent magnet technology for its large counter-rotating thrusters (CRP).
     According to Jussi Sepp?l?, General Manager of Steerprop Propeller Manufacturing, the demand for more compact designs and higher efficiency thrusters on the market has driven the company's new CRP ECO LM rotary thrusters.
     Jussi Puranen of Switch Company explained that in the traditional synchronous generator (purchasing supply), although the magnetic field is generated by the rotor winding feeding current, the huge magnetic field pole will bring loss and complexity to the system. In contrast, replacing a rotor's permanent magnets around a hollow steel cylinder reduces component and loss and increases efficiency and produces instantaneous torque that produces a simpler and more efficient magnetic field.
     Permanent magnets also have some design advantages: the permanent magnet thruster will be 30% to 50% smaller than conventional synchronous generators, and the weight will be reduced by up to 40%, in part because of the centrally controlled rotor design. This design will further reduce inertia, which is a key consideration in reducing shafting vibration considerations.
     Steerprop thruster manufacturing company's CRP ECO LM thruster is a mechanical omnidirectional thruster with motor and a flexible shafting vibration.
