SKF, the world's largest bearing company, invested approximately 800 million Swedish kroner (about 723 million yuan) in Shanghai and set up a comprehensive base integrating production, research and development of bearings . SKF has established this core Asian base in China, the world's largest auto-producing country, in order to supply timely products that meet local needs. The comprehensive base covers an area of approximately 45,000 square meters and includes an automobile bearing factory, a technology center, and a logistics center. The technology center can meet the needs of Northeast Asian customers including Japan and South Korea, while the logistics center will cover the entire Northeast Asia region. SKF and China’s wind power producer Vision Energy have reached cooperation on the supply of bearings for wind power generation. In addition, SKF will also assist Vision Energy in developing bearings that will stabilize the wind turbines. China is also the world's largest market for ground wind power equipment, and SKF hopes to increase its sales in this area through cooperation. SKF's 2013 fiscal year (as of December of that year) had sales of SEK 63.6 billion (approximately RMB 57.265 billion), of which sales in Europe accounted for 42%, and Asia and North America accounted for 24% respectively. Due to the extensive use of bearings, the company's performance is expected to increase substantially.
