The new safety standard must avoid the danger brought by the high-voltage transients. The safety must be deep inside the DMM. In other words, there must be enough safety designs inside the DMM. The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) has defined a new set of international safety standards for test instruments. In the past, the traditional industry standard was IEC 348 for a long time. This standard has now been replaced by IEC61010. Digital tables designed according to IECl010 standards have much higher safety indicators than according to IEC348.
Principles If you are considering updating your DMM, it may be worthwhile to spend a few minutes analyzing the worst case scenario before using it. Look at which type of overpressure standard can meet the need. In the selection process, the overpressure standard is selected first, and then the pressure resistance index is selected under the same overpressure standard. Don't forget to test the test leads. IECl010 is also applicable to the test leads. The overvoltage indicator of the test leads cannot be lower than the digital multimeter. If the entire overvoltage protection design fails due to the test leads alone, it will not be worth the candle.

Voltage peaks - an unavoidable danger As power distribution systems and loads become more complex, the possibility of momentary overvoltages increases dramatically. Motors, capacitors, power converters, frequency converters and other equipment are the most important sources of spikes. Lightning strikes on outdoor transmission lines can also cause very dangerous high-energy transient high voltages.
